Tumbleweeds Theatre Mandate
Tumbleweeds Theatre is an inclusive, youth focused theatre company designed to empower youth voices through the process of experiencing theatre. Our goal is to make theatre arts accessible to all children and youth regardless of economic, social or physical challenges.

Company History
Tumbleweeds began the children and youth component of the company in September 2000. The junior and senior company are comprised of students aged 5 to 17. Many of the original company members are still with the company, or are working in the larger world of professional theatre.

Tumbleweeds does not hold auditions for its company, rather it invites members from the broader community who exhibit a passion for theatre, strong commitment and proven desire to make a difference in their world.

Know for its original, student focused productions, Tumbleweeds Theatre has garnered a reputation for productions that are fun, provocative and professional. We have performed for schools, at community centres, for seniors' centres and at local theatres in and around Victoria, BC.

Tumbleweeds Theatre has also facilitated theatre programs with students at the Tsarlip First Nations School, The Vancouver Island Autism Society and local community centres. We have been nominated for best original production, 2003 M Awards for “ Of Grizzly Mice and Man.” Additionally, under the direction of Kim Denness-Thomas, our youth have won two United Way Leadership of the Year Awards, both as a Youth Action Team 2002, and as an individual teen leader in 2006.

Past Performances include:
2007 - "Lothmar Cometh"- part two of the "Of Grizzly Mice and Man" series
2006 - "The Snow Queen"- a black-light life size puppet piece based on the original text
2005 - “A Christmas Carol”, performed in the style of a classic 1930’s radio play
2004 - "Shakespeare In The Park" a series of Shakespearean scenes and monologues the audience experienced while on a walking tour of a local park.
2003 - "Of Grizzly Mice and Man"- an original play created by 2 local playwrights, Brian Hill and David Giblin who work-shopped this with the company. The first of a series of three.
2002 - "Words"- a play about a high school feud between the "Notes" and "the Grunts"; two warring gangs who meet over a wall, use words as their weapons, and turn to the audience to solve the problems through forum theatre. Toured schools/community centres, with a talkback session following each performance.
